Minutes of CCHA Meeting February 18th, 2010

Present: Jessica Chambers, Larry Clifford, Donna Doucette, Jerry Doucette, Amy Grainger, Ken Grainger, Cameron Haggarty, Neil McLeod, Mark Michie, Jack Weeks.

Donna read the minutes from the AGM. Moved by Larry and seconded by Cameron that the minutes be adopted as read. Carried.

The show results from 2009 were read out by Mark.

Manitoba Horse Council: Mark read from the Horse Council policies and discussion was held over rider and club insurance. Club insurance is well worth having at $550.00 because of potential liability. There is a club rebate of $150.00 if we submit an executive list and results of competitions by the following December. We need to make sure that members have their horse council membership before competing.

Motion: That the CCHA purchase horse council club membership and that it will be mandatory for CCHA members to hold a horse council membership. Moved by Ken seconded by Amy . Carried.

Motion: That the CCHA add a rookie division limited to first year Novice Rider competitors. This division will include a boxing class with a one minute time limit. Moved by Larry seconded by Jessica. Carried.

The Southwest Ranch Horse meeting was February 1, Mark, Neil, and Larry sat in on their meeting. They would like to share email and mailing lists with us. We will work on sharing a show on the weekend of August 21st at Thunderbird horse center. The cowhorse portion will be held on the 21st (Saturday). Bev will do a canteen all weekend.

Herd roping rules were discussed and consensus was that the rules stay the same, but add the use of herd holders.

Tentative show schedule:

1.May 29 Doucette’s (penning)
2.June 12th Chalanchuk’s (penning)
3.August 7th Virden (High School Rodeo finals)
4.August 21st Thunderbird Horse Center (SWRH)
5.September 4th Chalanchuk’s (penning)
6.September 18-19 Keystone (Finals)

All 6 show dates should be kept so that if we lose a show due to weather we still have enough shows.

Clinic: Larry is booking Lance Johnston for a clinician. Mark has had problems dealing with the Winter Fair board, as they will not allow us to acknowledge our sponsor during the clinic. NAERIC has sponsored our clinician ($2000.00 US), and we are to put up banner and advertise.

Motion: CCHA move the clinic from the winter fair weekend to the weekend of May 1st and 2nd. Moved by Larry seconded by Cameron. Carried.

It was agreed that we charge $350.00 for the advanced clinic, $250.00 for the beginner and $250.00 for a green horse clinic ($150 if you are also in the advanced or beginner clinic). There is a $50.00 discount for CCHA or NAERIC members for each clinic. Auditors will be charged $10.00 (on the honor system), and 4-H horse club members will be admitted at no charge (later changed by email discussion to all youth under 18). Names and addresses will be put a pail for a door prize. (Neil has some CCHA knives).

Mark is going to talk to NAERIC to make sure that the sponsorship is still available.

Ken and Amy Grainger will look after getting ads on the radio. We should advertise in the Cowboy, Co-operator,and Kijiji.com, etc.

Deadline for entries is April 16th.

Mark will call potential show judges and give them a show schedule.

Discussion was held about putting some CCHA money into a term deposit, and consensus was that at this time it is not worth it.
